Humanities Washington Calendar

The Roethke Symposium - Seattle
Wednesday, July 11, 2007, 7:30 p.m. in ACT Theatre's Bullitt Cabaret
The speakers include Kurt Beattie, ACT Artistic Director and the director of First Class; David Wagoner, poet and playwright of First Class; John Aylward, actor playing Roethke in First Class; and Lyall Bush, Executive Director of the Richard Hugo House. The Roethke Symposium will explore Roethke's influence on the poetry world, specifically in the Northwest; Roethke's teaching methods; and David Wagoner's reasons for writing First Class and his recollections of Roethke. Several of Roethke's poems will be read, and John Aylward will present a sneak peek at a scene from First Class.
The Roethke Symposium is free and open to the public. No tickets required.

A Common Language: Seattle / Shenzhen - Seattle
Wednesday, August 1, 7:00 at the Seattle Asian Art Museum
Qi Feng-ge, Dean of College of Art and Design, Shenzhen University on will present on Contemporary Chinese Printmaking and Fine Arts from 1986-2006 at the Seattle Asian Art Museum on August 1 , 2007. A panel discussion will on contemporary art in China by visiting artists and a recpetion will follow the lecture. This is part of a series of events presented by Seattle Print Arts.

Lebanese Performer May Nasr May Nasr

2007 Arab Festival - Seattle
August 4th & 5th, Seattle Center - Free Admission
Lebanese singer May Nasr will be performing at the Arab Festival 2007. Her participation marks two exciting firsts for the festival. Nasr will be the first performer brought from the Middle East for the event and she will be the first female headliner in the festival's 25 year history.
