Poet Donald Revell

Tuesday, October 9th - 7:30pm in the Cataldo Globe Room
Revell, a graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) in Binghamton and SUNY in Buffalo, is a professor of English at the University of Utah. He has written eight volumes of poetry, including "My Mojave," "Arcady," "There Are Three," "Beautiful Shirt," "Erasures," "New Dark Ages," "The Gaza of Winter," and "From the Abandoned Cities." A few of his honors include a Pushcart Prize, the Shestack Prize and the Gertrude Stein Award. The series continues in November with Joy Harjo reading and performing on the 14.

Author of "Lawrence Booth’s Book of Visions" (2001), "Book of Visions" (2004) and "Bucolics" (2007), Maurice Manning will read as part of the Counterbalance Arts poetry series. Eleanor Wilner will be reading on October 24.

Danger Books
Danger: Books! , Book-It All Over Arts and Education Program - Des Moines
Tuesday, October 23 - 7:00pm at the Des Moines Library
Danger: Books! is a series of readings from books that have been banned and challenged in the United States. Readings are presented in the "Book-It Style" by a group of professional actors, who perform the most controversial sections from the books, then facilitate a discussion on the First Amendment and how and why books are banned and challenged.

John James Audubon: American Artist and Naturalist

Exhibit open through 1/6/08 at the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI)
MOHAI presents a selection of extremely rare and valuable Audubon works of art and artifacts selected from the collection and archives of the John James Audubon Museum in Henderson, Kentucky. The exhibit includes original Audubon letters, rare books, photographs, personal items, and 60 of the original large hand colored "Double Elephant Folio"; engravings from The Birds of America. John James Audubon: American Artist and Naturalist is open through Sunday, January 6, 2008.
