We believe there has been no more important time in recent history during which to fight for the preservation of the humanities. Local and world events and news coverage alert us daily to the societal challenges we face by heightening our awareness for the need for informed public discussion. New technologies provide us with unprecedented access to information. The humanities furnish us with the prism through which we can analyze, comprehend, and ultimately use all this new information. They provide us with context, with understanding, with an enlightened and compassionate perspective. They raise our level of curiosity, teach us how to formulate and ask questions, and help give voice to our creative imaginations.
