Allan has loved music and storytelling since he was a child. At 4 years of age, he was singing Elvis songs. He learned to play the guitar in college and began teaching and playing music for children. An avid collector of old folk tales and folk songs, Allan became a storyteller with one criterion: it has to be fun! Allan plays many instruments, including the piano, ukulele, and mountain dulcimer. He has performed at festivals and schools all over the Northwest and is the recipient of two Parents Choice awards for his recordings. In 1997, Allan performed with Pete Seeger at Northwest Folklife.

American Legends in Story and Song In the footsteps of Burl Ives, Pete Seeger, Leadbelly and many others, Allan Hirsch offers an authentic American Folk Song and Story program. As a person deeply rooted in "oral tradition," Allan has collected and mastered many songs and stories that are based in American history and folk lore. As a singer and balladeer, he offers the tales of Washington Irving and Nathaniel Hawthorne as well as the unknown sources of folk tales and folk lore. This program for elementary ages children and up includes songs sung by slaves, protest songs, workers songs, pioneer songs, cowboy songs, humorous songs, animal songs, and much more. The stories include "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," Rip Van Winkle," "The Great Stone Face," "Feathertop," "Wiley and the Hairy Man," and many more.
