An Hour with Woody Guthrie
In May 1941 a 28 year old itinerant folksinger named Woody Guthrie was hired by the Bonneville Power Administration to write songs about the New Deal power projects being built in the Pacific Northwest. He wrote 26 songs in 30 days: songs about the river, the dams, the men working on the project and what he saw around him in this green growing land he had never seen before. The story of how the songs were written and what the times were like in 1941 is a fascinating bit of northwest history, as told by Woody himself.
Woody Guthrie Children's Songs
Woody Guthrie wrote thousands of songs in his short lifetime but he enjoyed singing none of them more than those he wrote for children. His simplicity in his lyrics are a model for other songwriters who would draw children into their circle. Many of these songs demand that children and parents sing together to lose themselves in the songs and become one with the music. Woody wanted the grownups to become kids rather than the kids acting like grownups. Come join Woody in these timeless songs!
