Humanities Washington Announces Grants to 15 Projects Statewide
Oct 15, 2009SEATTLE - Humanities Washington has announced grants of almost $70,000 to 15 Washington
organizations working to nurture creativity, promote dialogue and spark critical thinking. Projects funded vary widely in geographic scope and purpose, ranging from a program in Stevens County on how the constellations influenced Greek mythology, to the Northwest Film Forum’s film series examining how political divisions, such as Germany’s Berlin Wall, affect culture.
The following projects received funding:
Statewide
• Experience Opera 2009/2010 (Seattle Opera Association, Statewide)
Central Washington
• Mid-Columbia Literary Festival/CBC Reads (Columbia Basin College, Pasco)
• First Contact: Pre-Journeys Exhibit at the Museum for Culture and the Environment (Central
Washington University Foundation, Ellensburg)
• Women’s Votes/Women’s Voices (Yakima Valley Museum, Yakima)
Eastern Washington
• Not to be Forgotten: A Quaint Little City and Her Unknown Past (Community-Minded Enterprises,
Spokane)
• Documentary Films and Filmmakers for the Spokane International Film Festival (Contemporary Arts Alliance, Spokane)
• Conflict and Controversy in Ancient Greek Comedy (Gonzaga University, Spokane)
• Stargazers (Stevens County Rural Library District, Loon Lake)
• The Whitman College Visiting Writers Reading Series (Visiting Writers Reading Series, Walla Walla)
Northwest/Peninsula
• Connecting Elders to the Arts (Northwind Arts Alliance, Port Townsend)
• Port Townsend Community Read: The Hungry Ocean (Port Townsend Library, Port Townsend)
Southwest
• Heartsong of Charging Elk Lecture Series and Performance (WSU Vancouver, Vancouver)
Greater Puget Sound
• Divided Cinema: German Cinema at the Wall (Northwest Film Forum, Seattle)
• Search for Meaning Book Festival (Seattle University, Seattle)
• Vashon Arts & Humanities Lecture Series (Vashon Allied Arts, Vashon Island)
Humanities Washington awards Project Grants twice each year through a competitive application process. Grants are available to support projects with the primary purpose of presenting insights gained from the humanities.
