In an effort to locate “unsung heroes” in the furthest-flung areas of Washington State, Humanities Washington sources nominations from different regions of the state each year. In 2011, the organization is seeking nominations from North Central Washington (Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan Counties).

· A narrative (maximum of two pages) which describes the contribution and achievements of the nominee and the grounds upon which the nomination is being made. The narrative should focus on the individual’s or organization’s history of contributions to the humanities.
· Submittals may include up to three (3) pieces of support material, such as letters of recommendation or publications. Support materials which cannot be sent electronically should be sent to Humanities Washington’s office at 1204 Minor Avenue, Seattle, 98101, Attention: HWA Nomination Support Materials for ______ (nominee name).
The recipient will be honored at an award reception in Winthrop on the evening of June 2 and will be given the opportunity to direct a $1000 donation to the non-profit organization of their choice.
Established in 1995 in memory of Heather C. Frank of Yakima, the award honors an individual or organization in the state that has demonstrated imaginative leadership in the humanities. Potential recipients include historians, writers, documentary filmmakers, storytellers, cultural experts, and/or those working in the fields of history, language, philosophy, ethics, religion or literature. Tribal Elder Vi Hilbert of Mt. Vernon, Wenatchee educator Judy Trefethen, and Spokane’s Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture are examples of former honorees.
