Listen Up! What Is Modern Music?
Modern Music has always come under fire for no reason other than being “modern.” What exactly is “modern music” and how does one properly evaluate it? In this interactive presentation, for all age groups, award-winning composer and music teacher Donivan Johnson guides participants in learning ways to listen to new music. Using the “How to Become a Music Critic” guidebook, participants will listen to brief musical examples and learn skills necessary to properly critique modern music. Examples of how to connect popular music with new classical music will also be shared with the audience.
