Architecture and Design in Rome: Exploring the Eternal City
Unfurl the historical and architectural layers of Rome, from the days of the Roman Empire to the present, in this virtual tour through the eternal city, offered by professional tour guide Sarah Murdoch. Murdoch will describe the architectural marvels of the city – such as Michelangelo’s Capitoline Hill with its Piazza and Roman Forum – noting how their beauty comes from a reliance on natural proportions, a pattern not found in most American cities. As part of her presentation, Murdoch will juxtapose the city of Rome with American cities, showing how Rome was constructed with people in mind, while American cities have made cars their first priority. Murdoch’s presentation is an intriguing examination of what drives development and architecture – and results that survive the test of time.
