Pair of Think & Drinks to Look at Minorities in Movies
Join Humanities Washington for two upcoming Think & Drink events: From Birth of a Nation to Smoke Signals: African Americans and American Indians in Film will be held in Greenwood at Naked City Brewery and Taphouse April 29 and in Columbia City at The Royal Room April 30. Both events will ask: What myths about African Americans and American Indians are perpetuated by Hollywood? How have movies shaped cultural identities and stereotypes? And how have American Indian and African American communities responded to cinematic representations of their cultures?
The event at The Royal Room marks an expansion of the popular Think & Drink program to a second Seattle location. This is also the second in Humanities Washington’s 2014 Think & Drink series: Race, Place and Culture. This series will address the intersections and impacts of race, place and culture on lives around our state; look for upcoming events that focus on these issues in the arts, education, labor and more.
