Event Description
Join us for a conversation between former Town Hall Seattle Writer-in-Residence Sarah Salcedo and Washington State Poet Laureate Arianne True. Together, they will discuss how they negotiate the intersections of neurodivergence, art, and artistic careers. After a discussion, there will be a reading of Arianne’s poems and a section from the in-progress novel that Sarah began during her Town Hall residency in 2022, which has also been funded by 4Culture.
Arianne True is the 2023-2025 Washington State Poet Laureate, appointed by Governor Inslee. A member of the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations, she has dedicated years to teaching and mentoring young poets around the Salish Sea. Arianne has received fellowships from Jack Straw Cultural Arts, Hugo House, and Artist Trust. She is an alum of Hedgebrook and the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts and was recently the Seattle Repertory Theater’s first Native Artist-in-Residence.
The Poet Laureate program is sponsored by Humanities Washington and The Washington State Arts Commission/ArtsWA, with the support of Governor Jay Inslee. See the full website of the Poet Laureate here.
