IN PERSON: IN THE SPIRIT Arts Market and Northwest Native Festival

Event Description

Join Washington State Poet Laureate Arianne True for a reading at IN THE SPIRIT Arts Market and Northwest Native Festival. IN THE SPIRIT is an annual event hosted in collaboration with the Tacoma Art Museum and the Museum of Glass. The event features an exhibition, artist vendors, Native music, cultural dancing, and art making.

Arianne True is the 2023-2025 Washington State Poet Laureate, appointed by Governor Inslee. True (Choctaw, Chickasaw) is a disabled queer poet and teaching artist from Seattle, and has spent most of her work time working with youth. She’s received fellowships and residencies from Jack Straw, Artist Trust, and the Seattle Repertory Theater, among others, and is a proud alum of Hedgebrook and of the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. She lives in Tacoma with her cat and is always questing for high-quality dairy-free baked goods.

The Poet Laureate program is sponsored by Humanities Washington and The Washington State Arts Commission/ArtsWA, with the support of Governor Jay Inslee. See the full website of the Poet Laureate here.

Poet Laureate events are produced by the hosting organization. More details about this event to come.
