HYBRID: Indigenous Peoples’ Day Reading, featuring Washington State Poet Laureate Arianne True

Event Description

In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, celebrate poetry created and performed by Native poets. Washington State Poet Laureate Arianne True will begin the event with a reading, followed by an open mic for Indigenous community members to share their poetry. A sign-up sheet will be available at the event and participation by Native poets of all experience levels is encouraged.

Arianne True is the 2023-2025 Washington State Poet Laureate, appointed by Governor Inslee. A member of the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations, she has dedicated years to teaching and mentoring young poets around the Salish Sea. Arianne has received fellowships from Jack Straw Cultural Arts, Hugo House, and Artist Trust. She is an alum of Hedgebrook and the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts and was recently the Seattle Repertory Theater’s first Native Artist-in-Residence.

The Poet Laureate program is sponsored by Humanities Washington and The Washington State Arts Commission/ArtsWA, with the support of Governor Jay Inslee. See the full website of the Poet Laureate here.
